Every year, thousands of Union Public Service Commission applications are rejected due to incorrect photograph and signature formats. Follow this strict guide to ensure your registration is accepted.
1 Register on the Official Portal
All UPSC applications start on the official recruitment portal. Ensure you are on the correct, government-operated website.
Visit upsconline.nic.in NEVER share your login credentials, OTP, or payment details with third parties. UPSC will never call you asking for these.
2 Upload Photograph
Strict Photo Rules for UPSC
- File size: 20KB – 200KB
- Background: white
- CRITICAL: Face must cover exactly 75% (3/4th) of the photo area.
- Must be a recent colour photo with a plain white background.
- Face must be straight with both ear lobes clearly visible. No shadows on the face.
- Live photo capture will be matched against this upload during the exam.
- Photograph must NOT be signed.
3 Upload Signature
Strict Signature Rules for UPSC
- File size: 20KB – 200KB
- Ink color: black
- MANDATORY: Image must contain EXACTLY THREE identical signatures signed vertically (one below the other).
- Must be signed on plain, unruled white paper using only BLACK ink.
- Inadequate spacing between signatures or using blue ink will trigger rejection.
4 Review & Submit Application
- Double-check every field — name spelling, DOB, category, photo, and signature.
- Take a screenshot / printout of the confirmation page with your registration ID.
- Save the payment receipt PDF. Most boards send confirmation via email / SMS.
